Personal Paradigm Shifts
by freeflyingfaerie indo you find yourself, since leaving the religion, having an exhorbitant amount of personal paradigm shifts?.
sometimes i question my sanity.. i feel so open to ideas...don't know where to start sometimes.. don't feel dogmatic about too many things...maybe feel that it just 'isn't for me'...at least for right now (lol).... but in all of this, i never tire of these epiphanies and spontaneous feelings of gratefulness and love.. .
does anyone else out there experience this ?.

Meteor shower tonight!
by BrentR intonight and into tomarrow morning is the annual perseids meteor shower.
this year will be great viewing since the moon will not be up to drown out the meteors.
the activity should start peeking around midnight and you want to be looking northeast.. early next month a very rare shower (the aurigids) that astronomers know very little about.. read more here:.

How can I best view the Perseids meteor shower?
The Perseids have been observed by humans for about 2000 years, with the earliest knowledge of their existence emerging from the Far East. It is one of the finest meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60-100 bright, fast, and colorful meteors per hour during their peak. This annual meteor shower is active from July 17th through August 24th, and usually peaks on August 11 and 12.
Perseids is extremely consistent in its timing and can potentially be observable for several weeks in the summer sky, conditional on your whereabouts, lighting conditions, and weather. Meteor showers are commonly named after their radiant point, the perspective point in the sky from which the meteors appear to come from. In the case of Perseids, it is named after the constellation Perseus, which is positioned in approximately the same point in which the Perseids meteor shower appears to originate from.
While this summer spectacular appears to radiate from a constellation, they are actually caused by the Earth passing through the dust particles of the comet Swift-Tuttle. Each summer, Earth passes into a trail of dust left by this comet, and as a result, all the dust and debris burning up in our atmosphere, travelling at a very fast 132,000 miles per second (59 km/s), produces the spectacle known as the Perseids meteor shower, or what are popularly recognized as "shooting stars". There's no danger to sky watchers, though. The fragile grains disintegrate long before they reach the ground.
While the meteors are certainly bright, they are typically not much larger than a grain of sand. However, as they travel at immense speeds, these tiny particles put on an impressive show. Due to the way the comet's orbit is tilted, dust from the Swift-Tuttle falls on Earth's northern hemisphere. Unfortunately, this leads to extremely low visibility for those in Australia, New Zealand, and portions of South America.
In 2013, the Waxing Crescent moon occurring on August 12 will not have a negative impact on the visibility of the Perseids. Due to the lack of bright moonlight, the fainter meteors will not be concealed from view. It is advisable to observe the meteor shower during the predawn hours on the mornings of August 11, 12, and even the 13th. With up to 60-100 meteors per hour predicted, observers may catch plenty of bright meteors streaking along in the light of the moon.
How do I know the sky is dark enough to see meteors? If you happen to live near a brightly lit city, if possible, we recommend that you drive away from the glow of city light. After you've escaped the glow of the city, find a dark, safe, and possibly isolated spot where oncoming vehicle headlights will not occasionally ruin your sensitive night vision. Look for state or city parks or other safe dark-sites.
Once you have settled down at your observation spot, look approximately half way up the sky facing northeast. This way you can have the Perseids' radiant within your field of view. Looking directly up at the sky or into the radiant is not recommended since this is just the point in which they appear to come from. You are more likely to see a trail when looking slightly away from this point. Looking half-way up into the sky will lead to the best show in the house!

The BRAIN is awakening! Don't ignore it!
by Tech49 insomething happened recently, and i thought i would share a few comments.
first, lets set the stage..... if anyone is familiar with current events in the pacific northwest, you may have heard of the death of a beautiful young lady, whitney heichel, a short while ago.
in short, whitney was a young sister that was kidnapped and killed by a "congregation" friend.

Severe Gray area!
They are supposed to let you face your accussers according to scriptute but they will weasel out of it if they can.
Here is what happened to me:
During a CO visit my wife was out in service and the PO (who is a good friend of ours and still the only one who calls to see how we are doing) Told her that someone had made an accusation against me. It seems that I was going out to clubs and getting drunk(Now I will say that I did go out to clubs and drink but nowhere near as much and often as was represented.) Naturally my wife told me about this. Me being the direct no nonsense person I am, I went to the elder and asked him who made such accusations? This is where what little faith I had in the organization or the people in it crumbled. I was told that it was someone from another hall, that said they saw me. Now I'm the type of guy who doesn't hang with many people. It is very few who I term, in my heart and by my actions, a friend. So hearing this and being able to count on one hand the number of people I hang out with, let alone drink with...I am now puzzled. SO, I go to my 'friend' and tell him whats going on (at this point we are in the same congo.) He says he will try to find out what the deal is. This goes on for about 2 months with the elders knowing that they have to talk to me cause the allegation was made but scared( and I do mean afraid, they are all aware that I will turn the bible scripture's that allow me to face my accuser against them.)
So during the public talk one sunday they say they want to talk to me. I am ready armed with all of the pertinent scriptures and righteous indignation. At the song between the talk and WT, I tell my 'friend' that the bro's want to talk to me and I will force them to reveal my accuser. Sadly for some reason I dont take notice that he left the meeting right after my telling him this.
So we go to the back room me and 2 elders. I dont think I let them say the first words. I hit them with the scriptures from deut. and acts that say you have a right to face your accuser and plead your case. They acknowledge that I am right and they will tell me who made the accusations. They then proceed for the next 15 minutes to get me to make a promise. For 15 minutes they asked me to not seek retaliation and to not get mad and how the accuser really only sought my best interest. After they felt and I assured them, that I would not do anything, they told me it was my 'friend' who had made the charge against me.
Needless to say my mouth dropped. They then reminded me of my promise not to hurt him. Y'no the funny thing is...they did not counsel me at all. They just spent all that time trying to make sure I dont do anything to harm him.

I saw some witlesses doing the pioneer stroll to the hall.
Now picture this there is a hall in downtown dfetroit accross from where the tigers play. As you can imagine on a saturday morning not much traffic. There is 2 routes these witlesses could've taken...walk the lil street that the ballpark is on (nobody else on that street.) Or they could go up one block to the MAIN STREET THAT DIVIDES DETROIT that will (and did) have some people walking on it, now what styreet do you think the Dubs was walking down?
